Floating Museum

The Hall Art and Technology Foundation proudly supports innovative art spaces like the Floating Museum, a unique gallery housed on a barge on the Oakland Estuary. The Floating Museum highlights collections from underrepresented artists, blending international creators with emerging talents. By reimagining art accessibility and spotlighting historically neglected artists, the foundation furthers its mission to empower cultural innovation.

COMING SOON: IT’S JUST A SHOT AWAY

Art has the power to expose injustice, challenge authority and make visible what might otherwise remain unseen.

Opening October 24, It’s Just a Shot Away brings together artists examining the intersections of power, gender and violence, from systemic exclusion and the denial of autonomy to the human consequences of war.

At the center of the exhibition is pioneering feminist artist Lynn Hershman Leeson, whose work has challenged conventions surrounding gender, identity and institutional power for more than five decades. Featuring works by Chester Arnold, Airco Caravan, Enrique Chagoya, Al Farrow, Lynn Hershman Leeson, Mildred Howard, Kristina Kotlier, Lyn Liu, Bradley McCallum, Nadège Monchera-Baer, Wangechi Mutu, Alaïa Parhizi, Ginny Parsons, Michele Pred, Lucy Puls, Erin Riley, Marnika Shelton, M. Louise Stanley, Ehren Tool, Kara Walker, and Cheyann Washington. The exhibition explores art as a means of resistance, remembrance and confronting difficult truths.

Join us for opening night on October 24, 4 - 6:30 p.m. to explore the exhibition and enjoy live music and tacos from a local food truck! RSVP here.

Virtual Tours of Rising Tides

We continue to search, adding work continually to the Foundation’s collection that is both cutting edge and compelling. We are proud to give these artists the recognition they and the subject matter they present deserves. In partnering with other community arts organizations and universities, HATF seeks to amplify its impact on the next generation and the art world at large.

The Floating Museum invites patrons to experience the sea with its marsh, water, and birds, along with the rhythmic sound of traffic on a nearby bridge. Stepping onto the floating barge, where you stand is now gently shifting and unstable. While experiencing subtle movement, the viewer is drawn into a space that inspires the imagination.

Rising Tides, the inaugural exhibition of the Hall Art and Technology Foundation, is on view at the Floating Museum, located in Alameda, CA. The exhibition includes more than twenty artists in a sampling of paintings and sculpture with an emphasis on contemporary culture. The artwork responds to concerns about the environment, living through a pandemic, political upheaval, ongoing war, and more.

“The expectation of a rising tide is a hopeful notion, promising that no matter how bleak things look in the moment, if one just holds on long enough, eventually things will turn around…” (Jeremy Dean)

Artists represented in the exhibition are both local and international, with artists spanning from California to Japan, South Africa, Costa Rica, Mexico, and more.

Rising Tides will be on view through October 3, 2026.
